Museums
Florida is the home to hundreds of museums covering every topic, from children’s discovery centers to major art, science and technology museums hosting world-class collections, as well as historic homes detailing the lives of their famous owners.
Some of Florida’s most notable collections include the Florida History Museum, which houses some of Florida’s most precious collections of early artifacts, some dating 12,000 years ago, as well as incredible collections from shipwrecks and interpretations of Florida’s fascinating 500 years of history. Also, the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg has the largest collection of work by the renowned Spanish surreal artist, Salvador Dalí outside of Spain. The collections and curiosities of such Florida notables as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford (Edison and Ford Winter Estates) and James Deering (Vizcaya) are also on view in their homes in South Florida. These are just a few examples, but there are many more to discover.
