Constructed in 1907, the lighthouse was illuminated with one vaporized kerosene lamp “I.O.V.”system. In 1932, this was replaced with a 250W bulb and by 1972 was fully automated.  The site was originally 3 keeper's quarters, 3 barns, oil house & boat shed. Today there are 2 keeper's quarters, 2 converted barns & 1 converted radio/generator building.

The Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Society offers tours through their website: http://www.hillsborolighthouse.org/tours.html

Alternatively, the lighthouse may be easily viewed from two locations: West view from the Pompano Beach “Inlet Park”2660 N Hwy. AlA, Pompano Beach or a closer South view from the beach.
