The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is located on the St. Johns River and is noted for its collection of more than 5,000 masterworks of American and European paintings, beautiful historic gardens, outstanding collection of Meissen porcelain and Art Connections, the museum's national award-winning art education center. The Cummer’s 1.5 acres of historic riverfront gardens are unique examples of early 20th century garden design, with features like fountains, reflecting pools, arbors, antique ornaments, and sculptures. Ossian Cole Simonds, Thomas Meehan & Sons, Ellen Biddle Shipman, and William Lyman Phillips of the Olmsted Brothers firm are among the designers who worked on the property. A prominent attraction in the gardens is the 175 – 200 year old Cummer Oak. This majestic giant has a canopy of more than 150 feet and is one of the oldest live oaks in Jacksonville. The Cummer Gardens are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
