Museums

Northwest Florida is home to many museums covering the arts and sciences, the diverse culture and history of Florida's panhandle region and historic homes detailing the lives of their famous owners.

Some of northwest Florida’s most notable collections are on display at the Museum of Florida History, which houses some of Florida’s most precious collections of early artifacts, some dating 12,000 years ago, as well as incredible collections from shipwrecks and interpretations of Florida’s fascinating 500 years of history.  The collections and curiosities of such northwest Florida notables as John Gorrie (inventor of air conditioning, Apalachicola) and John G. Riley (Tallahassee) are also on view in their homes.  These are just a few examples, but there are many more to discover.
