St. Augustine Race Week 2015 April 9-12th

(St. Augustine, FL) St. Augustine Race Week is fast approaching with sailboats of all sizes registering to compete. The four-day regatta, April 9-12, 2015 coincides with St. Augustine’s 450th birthday and celebrates 450 years of sailing in and out of St. Augustine. Sailors from Savannah to Daytona are scheduled to race offshore in yachts from 32 feet to 50 feet long. Downtown racing on Thursday and Friday from morning thru the afternoon will feature boats 33 feet and under. The public is encouraged to come and cheer along the sailors as they race north of the Bridge of Lions in the Matanzas River up past the Castillo San Marco fort. The Race Announcer located on the Bayfront at the north end of Avenida Menendez will call the progress of the race to the public.The public also is invited to attend the after race parties for racers and guests at the St. Augustine City Marina Lawn April 9th and 10th, just south of the Bridge of Lions. Live music featuring local bands will kick off the parties starting at 4pm Thursday. Local favorite I-Vibes, a Reggae Sunday popular band, will be followed by one of the hottest party bands in town, the OhNo Band. Food presented by Meehan’s Irish Pub chefs, and libations from Red Stripe, Miller Lite, and Pusser’s Rum will be available for sale. Preston Pohl, star of the 2014 THE VOICE finalist competition will fill up the Friday night air immediately following Jacksonville’s Number 1 Reggae band, The 418 Band. The party begins again with all music and food vendors opening at 4pm. .Junior Sailors will compete on Saturday April 11 and Sunday April 12th in the Bayfront where the best viewing will be at the Castillo San Marco Fort and South along the Seawall. Please come and cheer these young sailors in their Optimist Prams and 420 Dinghies as they compete for their trophies. St. Augustine Race Week is a non-profit entity that donates a major portion of each year’s race sponsorships and entry fees to a Youth Sailing Scholarship program that pays for underprivileged youngsters to attend summer sailing camps at First Coast Sailing Association yacht clubs in the north Florida region.There is still time to register if you wish to join the sailing races.
