Flight to Freedom

Flight to Freedom

“Flight to Freedom” tells the story of courage, determination and perseverance along the perilous journey to freedom in Spanish Florida. Visitors walk along the trail where they encounter Native Americans, a trapper turned bounty hunter, a Catholic priest and Captain Francisco Menendez, head of the African Militia and founding leader of Fort Mose. The trail ends at Fort Mose where they are welcomed by Governor Manuel de Montiano, the African militia and Spanish soldiers as well as the residents of El Pueblo de Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose. Food, music, weapons, artillery and cooking demonstrations will also be on-going throughout the day.
