FORTRESS OF FREEDOM: The Founding of Mose

In March 1738, Spanish Florida’s royal Governor Manuel de Montiano's official proclamation established Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose, the first free African community in what is now the continental U.S. As part of Florida Living History, Inc.’s (FLH’s) 2015 “St. Augustine’s 450th Anniversary” commemorations and in conjunction with Florida Heritage Month, join volunteers from FLH - in partnership with Fort Mose Historic State Park and the Fort Mose Historical Society - in saluting the 277th anniversary of the founding of this bastion of freedom!
