Children & Parents Day celebrating the Pineapple Fruit | Sunday March 03 2013

Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History's Children & Parents Day

The pineapple fruit will have a starring role at the 8th Children & Parents Day set for Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Boynton Beach, Florida (Palm Beach County). Sponsored by Target stores and presented by the non-profit Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History, Children & Parents Day is celebrating the pineapple fruit for National Nutrition Awareness Month. The event will feature a personal appearance by the "Pineapple Farmer Patty" who will make a presentation about the history of pineapple farming in Palm Beach County, Florida. The 8th annual Children & Parents Day will also include pineapple fruit-infused cooking demos, kids cooking classes, pineapple-themed arts and crafts, souvenir photos, and an all-you-can eat farm-to-table lunch.

The pineapple farming industry was introduced in South Florida in 1860 and survived until the 1930s Great Depression. The pineapple farmers in Palm Beach County were former slaves, black Bahamians, Germans and other European-Americans from Michigan, Pennsylvania and other parts of the USA.

Additional support has been provided by the Patricia Ann Ravo Fund; and Boris & Edith Rueger Fund. Purchase tickets on-line.
